Music does half the work.

Your breathing looks for a rhythm, and music gives that rhythm a body. The right sounds take the edge off your mind, slow you down by themselves and keep you focused without you having to think about it. I put together four playlists that I breathe to myself. Choose one that suits the moment and let the music carry you.

Why music and breath work together

Your nervous system listens to tempo all day. A busy conversation, traffic, a phone that vibrates: everything that moves fast keeps you in active mode. Music that slows down gives exactly the opposite signal. Your heart rate seeks out the calm of the rhythm, your breathing follows, and you do not have to do anything for it.

That is why breathwork with the right background often goes deeper. The music takes over the steering for a while, so you can keep your attention on your body rather than on the clock or your lists. Do not see it as atmosphere, but as a hand on your back that says: you can slow down.

A tip beforehand. If you do a guided exercise with spoken cues, turn the music down or leave it off for a while, so the voice and the music do not compete for your attention. If you breathe freely, without guidance, the music can take the lead. Choose below what suits your moment.

Four moments, four moods.

To begin with

Adem begin

6 tracks · 25 minutes

Short and soft, to land for a moment. Ideal for your first time or for a short pause in the middle of the day, when you just want to switch off briefly without turning it into a whole ritual.

For a full session

Ademsessie

18 tracks · 1 hour 3 minutes

The long line. Enough room to really sink in and go all the way for a while. Put it on when you take the time for a full session and let the music carry you through the build-up, the calm and the winding down.

For the evening and winding down

Adem rust

16 tracks · 1 hour 14 minutes

Soft, warm and slow. For the end of the day, when your head is still on and your body is already ready to let go. Lovely with a long out-breath, or simply to close the evening.

For when your breath can flow

Adem actief

25 tracks · 2 hours 45 minutes

More movement, more energy. For a more active session in which your breath can go deeper and fuller, or for the morning when you want to wake yourself up and feel clear without the sharpness of the day.

The player works without an account. With a free Spotify account you hear previews, with Spotify Premium everything plays in full. Open a playlist in the Spotify app to save it and take it anywhere. The playlist names are in Dutch; the music needs no translation.

Music is the step up, not the goal

Music gets you started, but the change lies in repetition. Whoever breathes for a moment every day teaches their body something a single session cannot: that calm is always within reach. The playlist then becomes the signal, and your breathing does the rest.
